Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features. Know that we read every output log and crash report, though it might take time to respond to each one.

    game crashed randomly after a few hours in the editor

  2. Level "Refuge" causes load screen freeze since 1.2

    Since the 1.2 update the level "Refuge" causes a freeze in the loading screen and requires a force quit. Tailing Player.log reveals an out-of-memory error and null pointer exception. Attached is a partial log from starting Distance, loading the level in Arcade, and freezing at the loading screen.

  3. Game crashes while loading Sector 3 - Research

    When loading Sector 3 - Research in Campaign mode, the game crashes consistently just as loading seems to finish. I have not been able to start the level, and because of that it is impossible for me to continue the game's story.

    The log file mentions the game running out of memory before the crash. My system surpasses the minimum system requirements, so I'm not sure what the cause of the crash is.

    Sys Specs:
    Ubuntu 18.10 (64-bit)
    16GBs RAM
    Intel Core™ i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz × 4
    GeForce GTX 660

  4. Crash on startup - LogitechSteeringWheel.dll caused an Access Violation

    My wheel is a Logitech G29, and this crash happens regardless of whether the wheel is plugged in or not, and regardless of whether Logitech Gaming Software is running or not.

  6. Multiplayer (Auto) servers running out-of-date build since 1.1

    The Campaign Only, Realms, and Top Workshop Mix servers are running build 6670, but new player-hosted servers are running build 6702. Trying to join these servers gives me an incompatible version error message.

  7. Crash with Logitech MOMO Racing plugged

    Whether I launch the game with the wheel connected or if I plug it after, the game crashes.
    If I disconnect my wheel, the game launches fine.

    The MOMO Racing is quite an old wheel and it requires the Logitech Gaming Software 5.10. Even uninstalling it didn’t fix the issue.

  13. After launching the game it is stuck on loading/main menu loop

    The game loads up to 1/6, shows the main menu for a moment, then starts to load again in an infinite loop. The output log looks like discord-rpc.dll is broken. Can I disable discord totally via some launch options?

  14. Distance seems to randomly quit without any error.

    From time to time, Distance randomly quits. I don't know why, the last time it happened I played a bunch of levels, paused in one to do something else and after... 15-30 minutes (?) it just closed. No error, anything. But it doesn't happen often, quite rarely it seems.

  17. Crashes in game. Any mode

    Game crash after about an hour of gameplay. This happens on both multiplayer and campaign mode.

  18. Steam crashes when I try to load distance

    Lately, when I start Distance in Steam it never finishes loading and when I alt tab to the desktop, I can see that Steam isn't open anymore. I can still play other Steam games just fine. When I restart my computer I can open Distance again until *something* happens and I can't anymore. I'm on Windows 10. I'm not sure how to check which build of Distance I'm running since I can't load the game right now, but it is the latest version as of 20.dec.

  19. Issue with bombox car vizualizer on v1.1

    Using the circles bars for the bombox car vizualizer stll let's you see the car's "speedometer".

    With cheats enabled we can see the entire speedometer along with the bombox car vizualizer, however we can't see the red circle showing that cheats were used.

  20. Level Editor - Credits Orbs Are Super Buggy

    If you have multiple Credits Orbs in the level editor, either added separately or duplicated, things get really glitchy. The editor freezes up for several seconds if you open the Properties tab on ANY object (not just the Credits Orb(s)), the Properties Panel is filled with glitched out inputs, and If you playtest the level, when you hit the Tilde [`] key to return to the editor, you will either end up with a previously loaded level, or be stuck in a glitched state in which the Editor GUI is displayed on top of the game.
