Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features. Know that we read every output log and crash report, though it might take time to respond to each one.

  1. Distance crashed my graphics drivers

    I posted this before but I have to redo my description because the issue is more different than I thought before.

    This bug was noticed in experimental builds and only there! Some of these builds are:
    4581
    4587
    4664
    The stable build before these works just fine...

    Basically Distance crashes my graphics drivers while playing a level. It already happens seconds after I got on my first track. The one time I tried to do multiplayer it crashed instantly. The editor is affected by this too. Changing the main menu level triggers this sometimes too but I don't really know…

    • Unable to play split screen with two steam controllers

      The second controller is never detected. I've already reported this at the discussion forum, another user reported something similar while others don't have any trouble.

      I've uninstalled and reinstalled Distance. Tried steam beta version, tried steam link and connected to PC. Other games with split screen work perfectly well.

      Controllers are detected by the Steam interface. Distance seems to detect only the first one as a "XBOX controller". The second one is never detected unless I switch each of them to a specific and different combination of button layouts which makes it uncomfortable to play.

      • Hard, error-less crash in main menu and after respawning anywhere

        If I try to get into any of the settings in the main menu or wait for a length of time, it will hard crash. I get the same crash after respawning in any level. Being in-game stops the crash from happening inside of menus.

        The crash could be described as some sort of tearing crash. The game stops completely with music still playing, then the screen goes one frame forward but in a clipping flicker, accompanied by an audio glitch. Shortly after audio stops playing.

        I get this "problem signature" from Event Viewer

          • Wrecking my car 1 to 3 times = Game crash.

            It seems that it happens on pretty much any level.

            Beta version = 4789
            Level I was playing on = Negative Space
            Graphics card = AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series
            Operating System = Windows 7

            I've tested this about 5 times in a row. If my vehicle crashes 1 to 3 times on any course, it freezes for one second on the very last frame as the camera zooms/fades out to re-spawn. The game goes black and hangs, I have to alt tab to get out of it. lol

              • The new "thruster button" mapped to LB on the controller not located in the key rebinding page so screws with custom controls

                "thruster button" needs to be added to the key rebinding page, I replaced Right stick Left and Right to rotate in air with LB to rotate right and RB to rotate left so to use the new "Thruster button" I need to hold LB and RB at the same time because the key being bound to multiple functions without the ability to rebind the new control to something else.

                • In-home streaming, xbox controller does not work.

                  The xbox 360 controller is not detected correctly and the mappings does not work.
                  The controller works fine with other games through in-streaming.

                    Hello,

                    I'm able to run Distance without issue on my monitor. However, when I switch to the Beta build, and try to launch with my Vive it crashes on start.

                    I've done all of the fixes I could find searching the vast interwebs with no luck.

                    I'm sure it's something dumb on my side, but just in case I attached my log files.

                      • When I played the first level, the game crashed my graphics card(radeon r9 380) a little bit into the track.

                        I started up the first level, but it crashed my graphics card shortly after the point where it tells you to boost. Another thing that may or may not be related is that even though I have all my graphics settings on high and the game seems to handle it fine, the video quality it really sort fuzzy and not crisp like in the screenshots on the store page.

                          Thanks for the reports. You can link the Steam page for the graphics options screenshot (if applicable) or upload to any image provider (I’d suggest imgur), although I’m pretty sure by now that this issue goes beyond that.

                          In the meantime, can you see if launching the game with the “-force-d3d9” (no quotes) command-line option helps? In Steam, you can set this by right-clicking Distance, clicking Properties, and clicking the “Set Launch Options” button.

                          Also, specifying the other level that crashed might help in narrowing down the issue.

                        • Gas button doesn't reponse fully

                          When reinstalling the normal, Non- experimental version of Distance, my Steelseries Controller (Stratus XL) Doesn't want to reponse. My car only moves very slowly when hitting the Gas button. I use the stantard Xbox 360 controller scheme and my controller works perfect in other games

                          • Pressing (L Shift) causes grip/jet turns to stay turned on.

                            This is particularly a problem for me, as I rebound my controls and would greatly like my boost to be set on L shift.
                            It occurs when you, for instance, hold grip, and then hit shift.
                            After that, the grip action will be stuck in place and running with no input from the player.
                            However, if this is meant to be a feature I see no control settings that allow me to change that, and as it is, my prefered control settings cause me to lose control of my car if I'm not careful.

                            • Resizing laser objects in the Level Editor does not increase the laser's hitbox

                              For a level I'm making I made a VirusLaserTriCircle at 35 scale all axes. However, the hitboxes are unscaled with the model - I have to drive my car through the very center to take damage.
                              I tried increasing the radius and height values for the CapsuleCollider object, but neither increased the actual radius of the laser.

                                When using the HTC Vive, glowing outlines (Like from Opponents in Multiplayer or the Sprint Ghost) are wrongly placed... hard to describe

                                        The thing is that the game has one achivement and i can't get it. The reason: The map that i have to play doesn't exist. If this could be fixed i would be really thankful. And yes i am aware that the achivements are not a big thing to be concerned about and that will not be of priority. Just thought you should know.

                                          So, this is a weird technical issue. Sometimes (when specifically in Single Player) game will experience very short fps-drops, when it basically falls to 0 for a second and skips a little bit of gameplay ahead. But it doesn't always occur, and sometimes it runs perfectly fine on the same levels it was stuttering before, so you never know. And it's never in multiplayer, it's always in single player. Output_log.txt - me playing in multiplayer for a while (and everything runs perfectly), then I play a bit of single player trackmogrify and it begins stuttering for no reason.
