Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features. Know that we read every output log and crash report, though it might take time to respond to each one.

    • Grinding is impossible in Distance, the game registers attempts to grind as 'Side Wheelies'.

      This by extension makes the achievement The Long Grind impossible. I have only ever been able to 'grind' by cutting off all of my wheels and sliding along the ground.

          • Infinite pasting editor bug (exp build 5277)

            I was working in the editor on a track that was due to release when the stable build hits with the sweet new animators, when i came across an odd bug. I made a somewhat large group of a bunch of buildings, roads, and decor (some of which had components attached) into one city block. I then attached an animator + event trigger component to said large group and edited the properties to my liking. After saving and closing the same, and reopening the game and level some few days later, i wanted to copy the large group. When i…

              The Game crashes whenever I die. The following appears in the output log :

              • Steering in VR causes crash

                Playing 'Distance [experimental]' in VR with my oculus rift.

                I can load the game, load a level, and even drive for a bit, but the SECOND I steer left or right (XB1 wireless gamepad), it crashes.

                • boost seems to cut in the level amusement

                  during the last loop-the-loop on amusement the boost seems to cut out and the sounds of it turning off and on are heard although you can visually see the boost being used
                  I have did amusement three times to make sure with all the same effects on an xbox one (or xbox 360 controller in-game) controller

                    Hi i guess these achievement are bugged for some people. my friend who got 8 hrs get those achievement i i have almost 63hours but still no achivement for me. No matter what i do those achievement won't trigger for me.

                      • v-sync is inconsistent with a 144hz monitor, sometimes capping at 60fps, sometimes at 144fps

                        I have a monitor that supports 144hz output (BenQ XL2720Z). I noticed that when I launch the game with v-sync enabled, it will cap my fps to 60 instead of 144 as expected and I do experience a bit of input lag with my Xbox One pad (which is expected with v-sync). However, when I alt-tab out of the game and return to it, v-sync will cap the fps to 144 and there is no noticeable input lag anymore.

                          left stick down is read as up and left stick up is read as down by the game both in the menu/control configuration and in game. PS4 dual shock 4 controller

                              • After flight glitched into ground and exploded

                                Was landing with a slight angle downward from a flight, landed right as I tucked the wings away and half of my car instantly went into the ground and stayed there for approximately 2 seconds before deciding to explode-did not get a screen cap due to it being so fast. Was on one of the last levels before ending adventure mode.

                                • Workshop levels with same filename are not handled well

                                  There are levels on the workshop that are submitted with the same filename.
                                  When subscribing to multiple of such entries at the same time, the version you get is down to luck (I don't know the behavior of the update process if a file already exists).
                                  This is most noticable when starting such a map in multiplayer, as some players then end up playing different versions of the level.

                                    Hi Devs!!

                                    Not sure if this is only happening to me but I was very eager to test the new build only to find out it crashes just by starting the game.
