Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features. Know that we read every output log and crash report, though it might take time to respond to each one.

  1. Home Menu

    The home menu just after you press any key keeps on changing selection. It keeps on going up like as if you press up on the D-pad.

    • Menu options not usable after switching to old progile

      I used the options to switch to a profile from about a year ago. Now I can't select the Arcade or Options menu. Nothing shows up when clicked

        • ground zero spilt screen mutiplayer portal glitch

          the portal that sucks you in only affects the first player to get to it

          • Can't select Options or Arcade Mode on the main menu, and along with that the background on the main menu isn't even THERE!

            Same thing happens on Nitronic Rush except, in that game, changing the resolution fixed it.
            My specs are:
            Windows XP Service Pack 3 Professional 32 bit
            ATI Raedon HD 4550
            Some AMD processor that is over the minimum requirements.

              • Level switching bug

                The only common link I found was leaving the level editor's test mode. I would play through the track, then when I leave the level changed to another saved level, i had not pressed any other buttons besides the '`' to switch modes

                  Запускаю игру, музыка есть но картинка только одна. Я перепробовал почти всё кроме переустановки драйверов потому, что скачав пиратку игра работала отлично, а лицензия нет. (Start the game, the music is there but the picture only one. I tried almost everything except reinstall the drivers because the download pirates the game worked perfectly, and license no.)

                  • acceleration at the start not always the same

                    I noticed that the acceleration at the start of the level is not always the same. You can easily test this on Broken Symmetry level by enabling your last ghost session/replay.

                    With default key layout, pressing up arrow and shift in different ways/timings, the starting acceleration will be faster/slower;

                    example:
                    1) press and hold up-arrow first (I press it when the timer is on"2")
                    2) then press and hold shift
                    will result in slower acceleration than other way around

                    • Grouping objects sometimes deletes them

                      In one specific instance, grouping multiple simples with animators (via hotkey) caused the center-point to vanish. Upon saving and restarting the level, the objects were gone. This has only happened to me once, but I will be sure to have another person vote on it if it happens to me again.

                      • Pop up warning lights from really far away far away. (Not customized pop ups)

                        I was racing in the level Destination unkown, even though I know its not finished yet. anyways, I was driving in the part were there were blue popups and infected moving saws when I crashed on the first popup. (Lol). When I respawned I relized the second pop up light warning was on and I could clearly see it from the checkpoint. I started driving and when I got to were the light should have showed up it restarted the light cycle and basicly disapered quickly but reapered the normal speed afterwards.

                        • Xbox 360/Elite Controller buttons change during game

                          I'm using an XBox Elite Controller. The buttons changed mapping in the middle of driving. I had "X" set to boost, and the game switched and set both "X" and "A" to jump.

                          Another issue to work on is the fact that the game somehow does not recognize the right thumbstick - it kept reading it as the D-pad.

                          • Some of the custom cars I try to delete from the garage keep showing back up.

                            So, I've deleted a few cars from the garage to try to design more. My new cars are saved in the garage, but the old ones still keep showing up too, on top of the new ones. (the old templates show up first in the garage, and deleting the old templates allows for the newly created templates to re-emerge in the garage)

                            I'm sorry, but this... this is a difficult issue for me to explain. I won't hold it against you if you need to contact me to clarify on this issue.

                            • Various things relating to InfoDisplayBoxes (aka Adventure Tutorial Text)

                              - InfoDisplayBoxes don't show their text if you have trick text disabled in general settings. Understandable oversight.

                              - If you have All Abilities in Adventure mode turned on, InfoDisplayBoxes are nonfuctional, which makes sense. However, the "Press Back to Reset" text is not hidden, and it probably should be (this is NG+. we don't need to be taught how to play the game anymore :P)

                              - And speaking of InfoDisplayBoxes not working if All Abilities in Adventure Mode is turned on, this also applies to ones tagged to display in Arcade mode, which could provide... complications to some community maps…

                              • Everytime i respawn im facing the wrong way

                                Im in a community level, and everytime I respawn Im facing the wrong direction, at first I thought it was just the creator messing up, but now im seeing it in a lot of new levels i download, it doesnt seem that bad unless the checkpoint was in midair... i cant tell if its the creators fault or the games

                                • If you don't use Xbox controller right away, it doesn't work

                                  On main menu, I will start the game in Steam, go to my Oculus and start using Xbox one controller with no problem. However, if I don't use the controller for a minute or two on the main menu, it stops being able to control the main menu. (It can still access the oculus menu and works fine there)

                                      Thanks for your report. Unfortunately your video link seems to be broken, but I was able learn a bit from your output log. It seems that your game is installed on a different drive from your Documents folder, and upon attempting to access save data in “C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\My Games\Distance\” the game doesn’t have permission to do. I would try either installing Distance on your C: drive, or look into enabling permissions for Distance to touch that folder. You might be able to achieve this by running Distance as an Administrator.

                                      • Virus Teleporter bug

                                        I found an issue with the virus teleporters as they suck you in - should you die by being wrecked into a wall or any sort, you will NOT regain control of your car. Easy to reproduce.

                                        1. Have any sort of virus teleport like the ones found in the level Ground Zero.

                                        2. Make it so that it's surrounded by walls. or obstacles but still visible.

                                        3. play level involving such obstacle and get wrecked.

                                        This should trigger the bug.
