Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features. Know that we read every output log and crash report, though it might take time to respond to each one.

  1. Port 45671 or port 32323 ?

    Hi, i was trying to host a game so i followed the instructions and opened my port 45671 but it seems that distance is listening on port 32323

    and to host a game on the "online" menu, it's not even needed to open a port, the game works without it, can you explain me please ?

      • I went to test my track in the level editor, but the screen went black.

        • Car Stuck In Ground

          I jumped a void and the car did a nose dive into the track. It didn't blow up, wheels still spinning, just stuck in the ground Had to blow myself up to reset it. Car just stuck....lol. Love the game but thought I'd share.

            my editor tab wont reappear. after accidentally getting rid of it, none of the commands will bring it back and the drop down list does nothing as well

              • Hiccup / freeze / lag when in fullscreen

                What happens: freezes (graphics / input) for half a second each 2 seconds.
                What makes it happen: fullscreen on.

                This happened unexpectedly. I think I played last week and there were no updates to the game since then, so I feel it might be due to new graphic drivers.
                When not in fullscreen (window with borders) the game is normal.

                • Game crashes randomly. On some maps its more likely to happen

                  On the official map "The Obsever Effect" it always crashes in the beginning. Other than that there is one community map "Hexopolis" that keeps crashing and 1 community map "Bacterial" that has crashed once. Other than that it once crashed during Trackmogrify.

                  • Game is unable to properly start user level Disorientation

                    At first, it was crashing due to insufficient memory. Now that I get around it (probably by lowering texture quality), unexpected problems arised. Second part of the hexagon on the loading screen loads really slowly while screen starts slowly switching between regular loading screen background and black background. Then background stays black. Shortly after letters of the name of the level and version in the upper right corner change to plain white boxes.                     • Trackmogriy crash controller kept virbating

                      During trackmogrify on a random seed the game suddenly crashed and the controller continously vibrated even after the game was terminated

                        in the video it shows me trying to jump from wall to wall and fail, but then I fall into rings with spinning saws on them and when I ran into them they flung my car around and around in a neverending loop to where I couldn't regenerate completely and couldn't get out of it

                          When I try to jump over those yellow glowing walls, it launches the back of the car forward instead of the entire car. This makes me crash against the wall and makes me unable to pass. Also I can't jump at all while i'm boosting. I hope you guys will fix this soon, because I was and still am looking forward to play this.

                            • Disable Ghosts Names Wont Work

                              When in replay mode i like to disable hud and ghost names so that i can record gameplay. So when i go to disable the ghosts names in the options it will like you would expect disable the ghosts. however, if i hit restart or if i exit and chose a different replay to watch the ghost name will reapear. Then if i go to options it says i still have the dont show ghost names selected. so in order to get it to work again i need to click it once to disable it and click again to re…

                              • On macOS Sierra 10.12, in Steam Beta, I have lost half an hour trying to fix "crashed on start" bug

                                The game worked beautifully on my MacbookPro 11,3, then I subscribed to some workshop levels and it stopped launching.

                                To fix the bug I unsuscribed from the workshop levels, uninstalled the game, cleared download cache from steam preferences, relogged in and reinstalled the game.

                                Then launched it 15-20 times with various results (such as sound stopping and game crashing on loading screen or game crashing on the choice on startup to "cancel" or "delete" the downloaded levels. Each time the only way to actually stop the program was to force quit it through activity monitor.

                                • Crash on respawn and early on sector 14

                                  Game crashes when trying to automatially respawn after a crash and very early on one of the first turns on sector 14. It freezes for a while, then the music stops, then windows tells me the game is not responding.

                                  Workaround for the respawn issue is to bring the menu and manually restart a level upon a crash. But I can't workaround the crarsh on sector 14.

                                  • Replace Gravity Triggers with Gravity Zones

                                    I thought I had read about this idea a time ago, but I can't find anything about this now:

                                    The problem: If you manage to circumvent the trigger at the end of the (zero-g or low-drag) section, your physics are not reset to normal and you are free to complete the whole track with these settings. This makes for (in my opinion) very dumb tricks on some maps. It makes no sense in the context of the game and feels just like a glitch.

                                    Here is the way to fix this once and for all: Gravity Zones. These would work…

                                      As I was starting up Distance for the first time, I entered the tutorial and activated the boost when the game crashed and caused my GPU to refresh.

                                        Whenever my friends and I try to rotate up and down on to a different surface, it seems as if the cars begin to spaz out and start to spin way to much, same as the flying spinning bug. It's really annoying when trying to play maps using a lot of the rotation mechanic. Thanks for reading :)

                                        • Kill Grid Cylinder Scale Errors

                                          Basically, the size of the Kill Grid Cylinder's kill area is larger than the rendered grid.

                                          This is where my car exploded from hitting the grid, which is quite a distance from where the grid looks like it is.

                                          It's not just a precision inconsistency either (where one feature is calculated as a circle, and the other one is only approximated), the kill area is further out than the furthest point of the rendered grid. (From the center of the cylinder)
