Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features.   1. Replace Gravity Triggers with Gravity Zones

    I thought I had read about this idea a time ago, but I can't find anything about this now:

    The problem: If you manage to circumvent the trigger at the end of the (zero-g or low-drag) section, your physics are not reset to normal and you are free to complete the whole track with these settings. This makes for (in my opinion) very dumb tricks on some maps. It makes no sense in the context of the game and feels just like a glitch.

    Here is the way to fix this once and for all: Gravity Zones. These would work…

    • Crashed on tutorial causing GPU refresh

      As I was starting up Distance for the first time, I entered the tutorial and activated the boost when the game crashed and caused my GPU to refresh.

      • Something is off when you rotate up & down.

        Whenever my friends and I try to rotate up and down on to a different surface, it seems as if the cars begin to spaz out and start to spin way to much, same as the flying spinning bug. It's really annoying when trying to play maps using a lot of the rotation mechanic. Thanks for reading :)

        • Kill Grid Cylinder Scale Errors

          Basically, the size of the Kill Grid Cylinder's kill area is larger than the rendered grid.

          This is where my car exploded from hitting the grid, which is quite a distance from where the grid looks like it is.

          It's not just a precision inconsistency either (where one feature is calculated as a circle, and the other one is only approximated), the kill area is further out than the furthest point of the rendered grid. (From the center of the cylinder)

          • Car Explodes when trying to Test Level Editor

            I've been working on a track in the level editor, but when I go to test it, my car continuously explodes before I can even move. I have the car spawn snapped to the start line so I'm assuming it's in the right spot.

                in arcade, sprint mode. when playing a playlist of tracks.

                after finishing a track, clicking the next track takes a few seconds to load, sometimes a little longer than others.
                there needs to be a loading screen, or something to prevent you from clicking "next track" again..

                i find often ill click "next track"... and while waiting, im not sure if the next track is actually loading... so i click "next track" again, and see that its asking me to load the next, next track in the playlist.

                • better view needed. hard to see things.

                  There are some situations that make viewing the track a little difficult.

                  The eV score that apears next to the car, makes it difficult to see traps and obstacles on the track... there should be an option to move this to another part of the screen. out of the way.

                  when the track takes a sharp and continuous turn upwards, such as a loop. you have a very short view distance of the track, makes it difficult for sharp turns, jumps, and traps on the track, as you don't see them till you're right up to it.

                    2 issues. 1 is the game is to dark (even with brightness up and stuff)
                    second issue is the fact that when you do a online game and finish the track. Then hit ~ to remove menu and hit c to type. After finishing your chat with enter the screen goes dim/dark untill you hit ~ 2 times 1 to bring up menu then to close it so your screen is bright again.

                      If you change your game resoltuin in replay mode, the "REPLAY PROGRESSION" will kind of break.
                      As an example, if you are running the game in 1920x1080 and then lower your resolution are little bit (or even drastically like 640x480), you will notice that whenever you click in any part of the "Replay Progression" bar, it won't be in the time you want. You click at the timing of around 2 minutes, and it goes to 2 minutes and X seconds, or 1 minutes and X seconds.

                        fps jumps very incosistently from 10-15 to smooth 60 fps, very annoying when trying to play with friends, no pattern at all

                          When I finish any track, I can see local stats for this track (distance traveled, jumps/wings count, avg/top speed etc.). But when I switch to replay and then get back to results screen, all stats become zero.

                                • Distance not seeing Wireless Xbox 360 Controller on with Mac driver

                                  Title, basically. The controller can be used in other games, but Distance just doesn't see it. It's not in the controls menu, and pressing buttons does nothing.

                                  • Trying to use a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro with a SRW-S1 steering wheel. Buttons on joystick not recognized.

                                    As long as the steering wheel is plugged in, none of the buttons on the joystick are recognized at all. Can't use them to drive, navigate menus, and can't bind things to them. Analog axises work fine though. No idea if this issue is unique to this steering wheel or joystick. Windows recognizes inputs from the joystick normally.

                                      • Flight 'Auto Level' behaves oddly with PlanetWithSphericalGravity

                                        The player's car does not automatically level while flying parallel to the Y axis, even if gravity is not in that direction. (Fly 'north' or 'south' near the equator, with the Y axis being the figurative rotation vector)

                                        Currently the only object to change the direction of gravity is the PlanetWithSphericalGravity dev object, but it can be encountered in the credits level otherwise.

                                        • Droppers that smack into a checkpoint will instakill you if you hold Boost while you spawn.

                                          If a dropper collides with a checkpoint, the checkpoint will not check to make sure the space is free before spawning you.

                                          Perhaps Droppers could despawn after hitting a checkpoint? After they drop, of course.
