Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features. Know that we read every output log and crash report, though it might take time to respond to each one.

      • flight is too fast

        at times it is too easy to simply fly over a difficult and crazy terrain. I understand that the game encourages you to be creative when getting through a track to achieve the best time possible, but sometimes flying over complex terrain is just too easy and hardly rewarding. Hence i think it would be cool if the speed of flight was a little more slower than normal boosting, encouraging the driver to endeavour through a difficult situation.

        • Bug with Virus Spirit Spawner in Level Editor

          If you are near/being sucked in by a Virus Spirit Spawner, then go back into edit mode, the wind-like ambient noise will continue to play indefinitely, only stopping when you close the game.

            • Insane frame drop when loading too many obstacles

              I got huge fps drop whenever i face part of the tracks fullfilled with obstacles such as saws and lasers, i think it might be a cpu optimization problem (I got an AMD FX 8350 8 core and 4.0ghz)

              • I can't connect to steam workshop, and every time when distance was trying to connect steam workshop I can't even skip it.

So for now I have to use offline mode to open distance. Ofcourse I can't connect to steam workshop in game either, even I've already changed to the online mode. By the way I'm in China

                  • Adventure Mode, wall switch. Maybe a bug? Maybe me just being bad?

                    So on the very first level in Adventure Mode where the game introduces the wall jump switch. And I mean the side wall, not the top to bottom wall switch. For maybe five to ten minutes it wouldn't let me jump onto the wal by hitting space bar and A.

                    I ended up having to smash the front end of the car into the wall, jump and the use the front thrusters to get myself on there. I don't know if this is me being bad at the game or a bug. Just thought I'd let you know just in…

                      When you press WASD while mid-air withOUT the wings out and press space (or your other Fly key), the side thruster you've pressed will stay out until you close the wings again. These don't affect the flight whatsoever.
                      A minor one, but still a bug.

                      • [Editor] Checkpoints not saving drag changes (Gravity Trigger)

                        If you use a gravity trigger to change the DragScale or AngDragScale, and (while under normal gravity) respawn at a checkpoint, both those values reset to default.

                        Respawning while in a zero-G zone does seem to save the changes.

                        I'm sure you'll work something out with this, but the gravity system is a bit of a mess anyway atm.
                        The DragScale multiplies the friction if the gravity toggle is enabled, and divides the friction when it's disabled. Just setting the drag scale would be far easier, and quick to set the appropriate drag at every checkpoint needed.

                        • ive found that you can fly right past the portal making hexagon if your willing to risk over heating by heading around it far enough

                          i can fly right past the hexagon on ground zero if i fly off the track and around it, i nearly overheat but it can be done

                          • Level Editor: Teleporter Checkpoints in Challenge Levels

                            Teleporter exits which trigger checkpoints don't count as proper checkpoints when you save the level as Challenge.

                            In fact I personally don't want you to fix this, as I did want a level to function as both Sprint and Challenge, but you still should know.

                            • Not sure if this is a bug but on alot of the levels you have the spike rollers and 50% of them time when i hit them head on it did not kill

                              Change all the death traps to 1 hit kill or have a option that anything u hit kills u like as a challange mode or hard mode

                              becasue some times i hit some of the traps headon and did not even get hit

                                • Camera moves when pressing gas from standstill

                                  When starting a level, or respawning, hitting gas from a stand still causes the camera to buck up, pointing down at the top of the car for a second, before returning to the back of the car.

                                    My ps3 gamepad is identified correctly but after I quit the config menu, the game always sets it back to keyboard.

                                      New build made the game stop on the black startup screen with just the build number and the music playing, the game worked fine a couple of hours ago

                                        • Would like a jump pad obstacle (player drives over it, forced jump ensues)

                                          I'd love to have an obstacle that forces the player to jump when they drive over it -- like a pad that springs up when the car is over it. I like the existing tracks where it forces a player to jump manually, but sometimes I want to surprise players in the tracks I make by launching them up -- I think an obstacle like this could be cool.

                                          I wish Distance could support both: Having players jump/hop manually with the jump button, or launching cars up when they drive over a "jump pad".
