Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features. Know that we read every output log and crash report, though it might take time to respond to each one.

    • In level Corruption, in Adventure mode, trapped between portals

      In level Corruption, in Adventure mode, I was just getting past the point where you are going up a wall and there are 3 saw blades moving horizontally across your path, I went through the portal, but got cut by a laser shortly after. I flew off the track and died. When I reset, I immediately fell of the wall, backwards into the portal. I managed to get back on the track, but I was going backards through the portal and seemed to be stuck in an infinite portal driving loop.

      I doubt I could reproduce.

        We will be doing a pass over all of the Adventure levels at some point. That is a weird bug and maybe we can fix it if we can reproduce it. Thanks for letting us know :)

      • Flickering windows lights in Destination Unknown

        The windows on buildings in the final section of Destination Unknown flicker in and out unless the car is right by them. Possible Z-battle?

        • First person flying controls wonky

          When in 3rd person the flying controlls are reletive to the camera. However when in first person mode the controlls are still reletive to the 3rd person camera.

          To test this enter 1st person, flip over and try to manuauver upside down.

          • Holding Boost (Shift) at start of the level sometimes does not work

            When i press boost too early or start the level too quick, this usually happens

              • Jumping and doing a barrel roll doesn't register sometimes

                Occasionally, when I jump and land a barrel roll from the track, it just doesn't count it as a barrel roll. When this happens, it might occur two or three times in a row, although usually at one point it counts it as a back twist or some such for no reason. There's probably some test case for it, but I have no idea what it is. All I know is that it annoys the heck out of me when I've been doing an otherwise perfect run! Anyone else have anything to contribute?

                • Flying freezes the state of the rotation thrusters

                  If you're rotating the car as you activate the wings, the rotation thrusters will continue to look enabled (open/boosting), even after you stop pressing WASD/moving the right stick/holding LB. It also causes the side rotators to flip back into the wings instead of out like the animation's supposed to do, so it looks silly. There's no effect on gameplay, however.

                  • When on of the wings gets cutten off, then sometimes the fire of the boosters on the wing is still visuable.

                    When I was playing, I suddenly flew trough a laser, only half the car was left and then I still saw the fire of the booster, which was on the wing.

                      Happens most often in the level editor when just testing a track, especiallly when colliding. The game just freezes hardcore and crashes while audio was still playing

                        In both the spectator mode and the "spectator mode" cam during the results screen, it doesn't lock the mouse to the game in windowed mode

                            I copied this "DISABLELocalCarWarnings object from a official level(Forget which one) for DISTANTHRALL.
                            It works in DISTANTHRALL but when i used the object in Trials of mutecity it just didnt work.

                            • [Editor] Spherecollider for InterpolateToOnTrigger scales in location with the attached object

                              If you scale up one of the objects with the InterpolateToOnTrigger properties to 5 times the size, and move the sphere collider 10 units, the collision zone will have actually moved 50 units.

                              I'm pretty sure the size does not scale like this, just the location.
                              Other sphere colliders may be affected by this, I haven't tested this thorouly.

                              • [Editor] Fog obscures transparent materials (GlobalFog)

                                I don't know that I can describe this any better, transparent materials (such as wing trails and car bloom) don't render on top of fog, creating odd effects. This is more visible with the GlobalFog object, which creates a thick layer of fog just below the car.

                                  It seems to happen more often if you skip the workshop update before it connects to the workshop. It seems like it continues doing the update in the background if you skip it early enough, and then the unsubscribed popup appears, but you still have control over the car.

                                      • 'The Host has left the game' while testing in the Editor

                                        While testing a track in the editor and travelling very fast (using low DragScale Gravity Triggers), The message: 'The Host has left the game, Now returning to Main Menu' appeared, forcing me back to the main menu (without saving changes to the track)
                                        This is the second time this has happened, and I have no idea what specific actions cause it.
