Bug Reports

Reproducibility is key. Please provide as much information as possible so that we are able to reproduce the bug you describe. If possible, when you encounter a bug, go back and try to get it to happen again so you can be sure how it happens. Exact steps are incredibly helpful!

Screenshots: Providing a link to a screenshot (or even a short video) clearly showing your issue is immensely helpful. Simply attach it to your report.

Output Log / Crashes: Distance generates an output log which will help us greatly in diagnosing your issue. If possible, please attach your output log to your post (especially in the case of a crash).

  • On Windows: “[SteamFolder]/steamapps/common/Distance/Distance_Data/output_log.txt”

  • On OSX: “/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log”

  • On Linux: “/home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Refract/Distance/Player.log”

Beta Disclaimer: While Distance is in beta, experimentation comes first, stability second. We’ll do our best to fix game breaking issues as they arise, but our priority while in beta is to experiment with gameplay and features. Know that we read every output log and crash report, though it might take time to respond to each one.

  1. Distance seems to randomly quit without any error.

    From time to time, Distance randomly quits. I don't know why, the last time it happened I played a bunch of levels, paused in one to do something else and after... 15-30 minutes (?) it just closed. No error, anything. But it doesn't happen often, quite rarely it seems.

    • Game crashes while loading Sector 3 - Research

      When loading Sector 3 - Research in Campaign mode, the game crashes consistently just as loading seems to finish. I have not been able to start the level, and because of that it is impossible for me to continue the game's story.

      The log file mentions the game running out of memory before the crash. My system surpasses the minimum system requirements, so I'm not sure what the cause of the crash is.

      Ubuntu 18.10 (64-bit)
      16GBs RAM
      Intel Core™ i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz × 4

          • Crashes in game. Any mode

            Game crash after about an hour of gameplay. This happens on both multiplayer and campaign mode.
            - Tried reinstall the game
            - Tried verify game file integrity

            • Steam crashes when I try to load distance

              Lately, when I start Distance in Steam it never finishes loading and when I alt tab to the desktop, I can see that Steam isn't open anymore. I can still play other Steam games just fine. When I restart my computer I can open Distance again until *something* happens and I can't anymore. I'm on Windows 10. I'm not sure how to check which build of Distance I'm running since I can't load the game right now, but it is the latest version as of 20.dec.

              • Crash on startup - LogitechSteeringWheel.dll caused an Access Violation

                My wheel is a Logitech G29, and this crash happens regardless of whether the wheel is plugged in or not, and regardless of whether Logitech Gaming Software is running or not.

                • Multiplayer (Auto) servers running out-of-date build since 1.1

                  The Campaign Only, Realms, and Top Workshop Mix servers are running build 6670, but new player-hosted servers are running build 6702. Trying to join these servers gives me an incompatible version error message.

                  • Issue with bombox car vizualizer on v1.1

                    Using the circles bars for the bombox car vizualizer stll let's you see the car's "speedometer".

                    With cheats enabled we can see the entire speedometer along with the bombox car vizualizer, however we can't see the red circle showing that cheats were used.

                    • Crash with Logitech MOMO Racing plugged

                      Whether I launch the game with the wheel connected or if I plug it after, the game crashes.
                      If I disconnect my wheel, the game launches fine.

                      The MOMO Racing is quite an old wheel and it requires the Logitech Gaming Software 5.10. Even uninstalling it didn’t fix the issue.

                      • Level Editor - Credits Orbs Are Super Buggy

                        If you have multiple Credits Orbs in the level editor, either added separately or duplicated, things get really glitchy. The editor freezes up for several seconds if you open the Properties tab on ANY object (not just the Credits Orb(s)), the Properties Panel is filled with glitched out inputs, and If you playtest the level, when you hit the Tilde [`] key to return to the editor, you will either end up with a previously loaded level, or be stuck in a glitched state in which the Editor GUI is displayed on top of the game.                         • Disabling workshop level auto-download option breaks multiplayer

                          Bug description:
                          When the autodownload is disabled and I try to join any multiplayer game, prompt is shown to download a level. I select OK and the level downloads and loads, but it doesn't connect me to the multiplayer, it loads a singleplayer game. But not really because the restart option for example informs me that "only a host can restart an online match". So I exit the "singleplayer" and try to connect to the server again. But it doesn't work anymore, it either timeouts or informs me that I am already connected. The only workaround is to completely quit…

                                This seems to happen consistently, shortly after starting the level. It does require that I move along the towards the first jump. System is Arch Linux,

                                      • Animation Audio not playing in children groups, parent group audio delayed.

                                        It seems that the Animation Audio component has its limits inside groups. I have build a group where animated children groups (6 Animation Audio Components inwhich 4 are played in rapid succession for a believable minigun fire) and parent group with 1.. The parent one and the bullets (minigun) are fired, but not the 2 sounds corresponding to the deploy. I have tested it with several different sounds and also other field (Pong Play, Pong Stop, Stop) none work. It seems as I hit a limit which is sad. Is this intentional?

                                        • LFE (Bass) channel ABSENT for music

                                          In every stage except for Compression, the LFE channel for music is absent. The game's music is amazing and it's a real shame that there's no bass for every song except for the one in Compression, which has quickly become my favourite stage and the only one I replay due to the fact that it actually has bass.
